Fred34 Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Apple iOS 18.1 is set to launch next week, bringing key updates like hearing aid support for AirPods Pro 2 and new Apple Intelligence features. The hearing aid function, announced in September, allows users to set up AirPods as hearing aids, offering sound enhancement and real-time adjustments—an affordable alternative to traditional hearing aids. Apple Intelligence, first revealed at WWDC, includes smart audio transcription and writing tools across apps like Mail and Notes, with more AI features expected in future updates. Quote
Gabetrue Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 am i tripping or are apps taking way more storage than usual after ios18/18.0.1 iPhone 12 btw. these apps did NOT take up this much on ios 17. anyone else noticing this ? legit anytime i uninstall and reinstall they all go to over a gig within a day or two Quote
HollyMac Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 May be commonplace. But this definitely shouldn’t be normal. If this is truly the case (and it’s not just a case of bloated cache) then devs need to chill the fuck out and optimize better. There is absolutely zero reason an app like instagram or TikTok need to be over 100mb let alone in the GIGAbytes. The content is pulled live from the internet for fucks sake. What’s stored on the phone? Code and asset images. Quote
IndieP Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 I think part of this issue is on Apple themselves. I remember the Apollo app had a clear cache button but also had an explainer that sometimes the bloat was from the built in browser. I guess the developer can’t do anything to clear that, cause he provided instructions on how to clear safari’s cache from inside the settings app. Here was the explainer from the Apollo: https://imgur.com/wHEkEKV Also think Apple needs to provide a way to clear app cache from inside the settings app. Would be nice if you are looking to free up storage and since finding the option in many apps is convoluted or not possible.
