Like most iPhone enthusiasts, I watched the iPhone 16 event yesterday - TWICE as a matter of fact! I wasn’t very alert the first time through so U watched it again because I felt sure I must have missed something the first time through…but apparently I didn’t!

After months of hearing about the “massive iPhone 16 redesign”, I was left feeling extremely underwhelmed! As a photography enthusiast, I often use my iPhone when I don’t have my “big camera” with me - just as many of you do. So naturally, camera improvements are an important consideration when deciding whether to upgrade or not.

The only noticeable improvement I saw on the 16 Pro Max is the addition of the camera control button. They made a big deal out of the 48 MP wide angle lens but the 15 Pro Max had that feature as well. Perhaps the macro capability is improved but I’m not even sure about that until I look more closely at the specs!

Much was made about “Apple Intelligence”, but again the 15 Pro Max already is compatible with these services.

I have struggled over the years trying to discern whether or not to upgrade but in almost every case the desire to have the “latest and greatest” ruled the day and I dutifully contributed to Apple’s coffers!

However this year, more than ever before, I’m not finding anything that is even remotely interesting motivating me to open my wallet yet again! Did I miss something?

What about you…especially the 15 Pro Max user, but I’m interested in everyone’s takeaway from this event! Apple Watch 10 is interesting to me, but the big AirPods news” was a joke! Seriously? After several years the “upgrade” to AirPods Max is USB-C charging…for ANOTHER $549?

I hope some of you saw some interesting hints that I missed…otherwise this huge redesign is a bust in my opinion!

Since the global is way better I will upgrade. Better camera, camera control, better battery, etc. for me is worth it. But depends on every person and every budget. Since my daughter has a 12PM all messed up, I’ll offer my 15 PM to her and get the 16 PM. BUT if I didn’t have my daughter, I don’t know if I’d upgrade though.

As an owner of the 15 Pro Max, I am not going to upgrade to the 16 Pro Max. As others have said, I don’t see enough upgrades IMO. Now if you are coming from an iPhone 14 Pro Max and under, then it makes more sense to do so(just being able to use USBC has been more convenient for me). So at the end of the day it depends on you, if you can afford it etc. Anyways I LOOK forward to seeing what the IPhone 17 Pro Max brings❤️

Camera control button is very tricky to use on iPhone. Most shots I take on 15 pro max I use the action button as sort of the shutter button, but only when I do on landscape mode. Most of the time I shoot portrait just force of habit and that’s just the natural orientation of the device.

So adding camera control is a gimmicky feature for iPhone users to pretend (?) act (?) simulate (?) what it’s like to shoot on an actual camera. Even funnier is that slightly holding the shutter button of that camera control adds an autofocus feature. Why did they add that when the software of iOS already automatically focuses on the subject? That’s what makes it gimmicky and focuses on encouraging users to keep taking pics and vids for content to satisfy their social media needs.

The fact that they marketed The Weeknd’s music video shot on iPhone 16 using camera control is all marketing, to let consumers know that you can use this feature for your social media needs as well. You can act like a professional, or professionals can also use iPhone as their main device, either way it was meant to deliver the fact that there is a need for validation and that is to use it for content creation. As a casual consumer/user of iPhone, a simple press of the digital shutter is already perfect. Adding that camera control is a nice feature but not entirely groundbreaking…

In conclusion, I think the future of iPhone is an integration of next gen mirrorless camera and iOS. It makes sense considering the addition of this new camera control setting. If they want to emulate the professionalism aspect of photography, adding more features such as this button is just the step in that direction.

I’ve been testing the iOS Development beta on my iPhone 15 Pro Max, and I’m happy to report that Apple’s intelligence features are working well in this device model! While the emoji creation feature and other exciting functionalities will be released in a later software update. As an avid iPhone enthusiast who upgrades annually, this is the first time I’m considering holding off on an iPhone upgrade. I am excited and eagerly anticipating the unveiling of the iPhone 17 Pro Max next year!
