Window right behind my desk, is it the coating or the brightness that fixes glare

My desk faces a window and my current panel is basically unusable in the afternoon, everything washes out in the glare. I keep going in circles on whether the real fix is more brightness or the coating. Would a matte anti-glare screen actually beat the reflections better than just buying something...
