my eyes ache after long sessions, is it the panel flickering

long console and desk sessions and my eyes are wrecked by the end of the night. read that a lot of cheap monitors dim the backlight with PWM which flickers, and that flicker-free or DC dimming panels are meant to be easier on the eyes. is that a real thing worth prioritising, or is my problem just...
