coming off a 60Hz relic, how high do i actually need to go?

still on an ancient 60Hz panel and im well overdue an upgrade. i play mostly fast games so i know i want higher refresh, question is how high is actually worth it for me. 144 or 240? ive read that the first jump from 60 is the huge one and everything after is smaller returns, which honestly sounds...
