Leaning VA for dark-room RPGs, talk me out of it

I play a lot of RPGs at night with the lights off and my old TN turns every dark scene into grey soup. Everything I read says VA gets you 3000-6000:1 contrast versus about 1000:1 on IPS, so blacks actually look black. That plus a dark room has me leaning VA pretty hard. The counter I keep seeing is...
