monitor help! 1440p or stick with 1080p?

hey guys, so im thinking of upgrading my monitor soon and im a bit stuck. ive been rocking a 1080p panel for ages, its fine, but i feel like my pc could handle more, its got a decent gpu now. is the jump to 1440p worth it, like, actually worth it? i see lots of monitors advertising high refresh rates, like 144hz or even 240hz, but will my games even run that high at 1440p? plus, ive heard the pixel density is way better, making games look sharper, is that true in your experience? i mostly play fps games and some rpgs, so i need something that's responsive but also looks good. any personal recommendations or experiences with 1440p would be awesome!
