Welcome to your Apple update, your go-to roundup of all the Apple news you might have missed last week.

There's just one week to go until Apple's biggest event of the year, and the excitement is reaching a fever pitch. Of course, most of the buzz is centered around the iPhone 16, which is no surprise given the iPhone’s massive contribution to Apple's bottom line. But will the new iPhone live up to all this hype? That’s a tough question.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a truly groundbreaking iPhone. (the iPhone X was the last model that really wowed people.) At this point, it’s getting harder and harder for Apple to come up with truly revolutionary features.

Most of the big breakthroughs—like 3G, the App Store, and basic interface improvements—came in the first few generations. Since then, Apple has spent years making smaller, incremental changes. There just isn’t much left to tweak, except for upgrading the processor way beyond what current apps require and enhancing the camera to levels that most casual photographers don't need. The iPhone 16 will probably get more RAM, new Apple Intelligence features, and some fresh colours, but beyond that, there may not be much to talk about.

But don’t worry—Apple’s Glowtime event won’t just be about the iPhone. There are plenty of other announcements to look forward to that will make this event worth watching.

Take the Apple Watch, for instance. It’s usually overshadowed by the iPhone at these events, but this year could be different. The first Apple Watch was announced on September 9, 2014, making this month its 10th anniversary. And since Apple doesn’t often hold events on a Monday, it seems like the timing might be intentional.

We're anticipating the launch of an Apple Watch X to celebrate the anniversary, just like the iPhone X did in 2017. Expect a larger screen, a slimmer design, and maybe even some new health sensors. This could be a big moment for the Apple Watch.

And the surprises might not end there. We’re also expecting two new sets of AirPods, including a budget-friendly “Lite” version (though it probably won’t be called that). Plus, there are hints that the iPad mini is due for a long-awaited refresh. Picture this: an M-class processor, 8GB of RAM, a landscape-oriented FaceTime camera, and more storage. It could be the ultimate Apple Intelligence device.

Apple’s September 6th event promises to be packed with exciting announcements. Whether you’re an iPhone enthusiast, a wearable tech fan, or simply curious about the latest gadgets, this event is one to watch. All in all, we’re in for an exciting event with plenty of highlights. And those highlights might just challenge Apple's usual marketing priorities. Who knows? Maybe Apple will kick things off with the iPhone 16 just to clear the way, and save the updated iPad mini for a show-stopping “One more thing.” Now, wouldn’t that be a twist?
