Tinder Introduces 'Share My Date' Feature Allowing Users to Send Date Details to Friends and Family
We've all done it- gone onto Tinder, matched with someone, arranged a date and immediately shared this profile (and every possible photo) with our best friend for their approval. Tinder has now unveiled a new feature called "Share My Date," allowing users to easily share their dating plans through the app. Announced on Monday, this feature enables users to send a link with essential details of their upcoming date—such as the match’s name, the location, date, and time of the meeting, and even a personal note. These links, which can be sent up to 30 days in advance, are editable at any time. It's always a good idea to let someone know where and when you're going on a date and details about the person you're meeting up with, just to be safe. Way back in 2020, Match.com introduced a date check-in feature that allowed users to share details of their dates with emergency contacts in case the situation turned problematic.
"Share My Date" links can be accessed by anyone, including those without a Tinder account. While Tinder users can view the match’s full profile without the ability to message, non-users will see a more restricted version showing only the match’s photos, name, and age. The links are designed to expire after a certain period to prevent misuse on social media platforms, according to a Tinder spokesperson.
This feature was inspired by the finding that over half of singles under 30 regularly inform their friends or family about their dating plans. “At Tinder, we aim to create a fun, safe, and respectful environment. 'Share My Date' modernises the way users can share their plans, helping them to focus more on the excitement of meeting someone new,” said Tinder CMO Melissa Hobley.
The rollout of "Share My Date" will commence soon in multiple countries, including the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, and several European and Asian nations. This introduction comes during a period of stagnation for the dating app industry, with Tinder experiencing a decline in user growth and paid subscribers in recent times. Match Group, Tinder’s parent company, is poised to announce its first-quarter earnings soon, shedding more light on its performance and the impact of new features like "Share My Date."
